Sign, version, export and share a document

Send a document for signature, save and restore versions, export it, share a link, or turn an uploaded Word file into one you can edit.

Everything you can do with a document is on its page, and most of it is also in the right-click menu in the Documents list. Documents are available on Solo and up.

Open a document

  1. 1
Open Documents from the left sidebar.
  2. 2
Double-click a document (or right-click it and choose Open). Along the top you'll see its status, then Share, Sign, Export and Delete.

Get it signed

  1. 1
Click Sign. The Signatures page opens.
  2. 2
Under Message (optional), add a note if you like. Your signers see it in the email and on the signing page.
  3. 3
Under Signers, type the signer's email address and, if you want, their Name (optional).
  4. 4
To add more people, click Add signer, and tick Sequential signing (one at a time, in order) if they must sign in a set order. You can drag signers to change the order. More than one signer is available on Solo Pro and up.
  5. 5
Click Send request. Each signer gets an email with a link to sign.

Under Pending & Completed you can see each request, click Remind to nudge the people who haven't signed, or Cancel it. When everyone has signed, click Download signed PDF.

Save and restore versions

  1. 1
On the document's page, open the History tab.
  2. 2
Click Save current as version to keep a copy of the document as it is now.
  3. 3
To go back, click View all versions. On the Version history page, click Restore next to the version you want and confirm. What's there now is saved as a version first, so nothing is lost.

Export or download

  1. 1
Click Export at the top of the document and pick a format. A document written in the app exports as PDF, Word (DOCX), Markdown or HTML; a spreadsheet as Excel (XLSX) or CSV. The file opens in a new tab.
  2. 2
An uploaded file has no Export. To get the file back, click Download above the preview on its Viewer tab, or right-click it in the Documents list and choose Download original.

Edit an uploaded Word file

  1. 1
Open the uploaded .docx file. It opens on the Viewer tab.
  2. 2
Click Convert to editable document. A new, editable copy opens ("Converted to editable"). Your original upload stays as it was.

Share a link

  1. 1
Click Share on the document's page.
  2. 2
Under Create a new share link, choose a Role: Viewer, Commenter or Editor.
  3. 3
Click Create link, then Copy next to it under Existing links, and send it to whoever needs it. Revoke switches a link off.

Password (optional), Expires and Allowed emails for a link are available on Solo Pro and up.

If something isn't there

No Sign button: only documents written in the app and uploaded PDFs can be signed. For a Word file, convert it first (see above), then sign the new copy. Spreadsheets can't be sent for signature.

No Convert to editable document button: it only appears for uploaded Word (.docx) files. Other uploads, such as PDFs or photos, stay as they are.

No Documents in the sidebar: Documents aren't on the Free plan.
